Schools Experience Team

What do you enjoy about working in Schools Experience at Rocksteady?

I enjoy working in the Schools Experience Team because we build great relationships with schools, supporting everyone from office staff to headteachers so they get the most out of Rocksteady and the resources we offer. I especially like liaising with band leaders and their schools to ensure the children have the proper rockstar experience!

A favourite Rocksteady moment?

This is tricky as there are so many! I once helped a school give a bursary place to a child whose family was seeking asylum from their war-torn country, enabling the child to make friends instantly by joining a band as a drummer.

Would you recommend Rocksteady as a great place to work?

I would definitely recommend Rocksteady as a great place to work! I have such an enthusiastic and fun team; we share ideas and help each other solve a range of challenges. Since my first day, I have been consistently amazed by the integrity of this organisation. Every single person genuinely wants to bring music to all children, inclusively.

“We have a really close-knit team and I have made some great friends working here.”

Customer Service Team

What do you enjoy about working in customer services at Rocksteady?

My favourite part of working in the Customer Service Team at Rocksteady is the people. We have a really close-knit team and I have made some great friends working here. I also enjoy the challenges that come from dealing with customers; there is a lot of satisfaction to be found in solving things for them and giving them a great customer experience.

A favourite Rocksteady moment

I’ve had the opportunity to support our band leaders at several Rocksteady Foundation events. These are always incredibly moving, however one that sits particularly close to my heart was watching a young autistic gentleman go from shy and non-verbal to absolutely coming out of his shell on the drums! As soon as he sat down it was like light turned on inside him and he was an absolutely mind-blowing drummer with so much confidence and skill!

Favourite music genre?

I am banned from leaving my Spotify on shuffle in the office as my music taste is so diverse that you can never tell what is going to play next! But I would say my most listened to genre is Pop Punk or Symphonic Metal.

“It’s an amazing feeling walking into work every day knowing I will have a positive impact on children.”

SCHOOLS TEAM

What do you enjoy about working in the Schools Team at Rocksteady?

I enjoy working as part of the Schools Team because we get to engage with schools all over the country and spread the joy of Rocksteady. It’s an amazing feeling walking into work every day knowing I will have a positive impact on children.

A favourite Rocksteady moment?

In 2022, I helped to run a Foundation event for children at Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital. There was one child who was very unsure and sat at the back of the room watching. Eventually, he plucked up the courage to come up and have a go on different instruments. He instantly became more confident and really got into the music! His parents couldn’t believe that he was playing – there were lots of tears of joy! Just watching the enjoyment on everyone’s faces and knowing that, for a while, their troubles slipped away is a feeling and memory I will hold forever.

An amazing gig you’ve been to?

My favourite gig of all time was watching Iron Maiden Headline at Reading Festival in 2005! I managed to get right to the front of the crowd, and they put on an amazing show!
